January 1-7, 2019 — Welcome to 2019. A new year full of endless possibilities of adventure and exploration just waiting to be embarked upon. We started the year off in sunny Glendale, Arizona where we visited with friends and took in the local sights. There is such an endless amount of things to see and do in the greater Phoenix metro area!
When not out and about exploring time was spent inventorying supplies and stocking the refrigerator as we prepared to head to the desert for several weeks of boondocking. We’ve been looking forward to our time there for months and once we are settled in we plan to stay put for awhile.
All nights this week were free stays with six nights at the Desert Diamond Casino in Glendale, Arizona and one night at Scaddan Wash in Quartzsite, Arizona.
Love it when we happen upon an unexpected Farmer’s Market! This one was on the grounds of the state capitol building in Phoenix, Arizona.
The original Arizona State Capitol building in Phoenix is now the Arizona Capitol Museum which focuses on the history and culture of Arizona. The museum is very interesting and definitely a worthwhile stop. Admission and parking are free.
An Arizona flag made out of 113,998 lego bricks with each brick representing a square mile of land in the state makes its home at the Arizona Capitol Museum in Phoenix, AZ.
Also in the Arizona Capitol Museum is an exhibit of the state lottery along with an actual lottery machine used for the Pick 3 drawings.
Talking Stick Resort Arena, home of the Phoenix Suns. We’ve never been to a NBA game but with the Milwaukee Bucks playing here in March it is time to buy tickets and mark another item off the bucket list.
We were in need of a mid winter baseball fix so off to Chase Field, home of the Arizona Diamondbacks, for a stadium tour. What a fun time! Hopefully this will hold us over for a few weeks until spring training games start.
We also toured State Farm Stadium, home of the Arizona Cardinals, in Glendale, Arizona. The stadium has a natural grass field that sits on a roller system. Before game day the field is rolled into the stadium and then after the game it is rolled back outside. How cool is that?
While in Glendale, Arizona we parked overnight at the Desert Diamond Casino where limited RV stays are allowed. The casino is currently undergoing a $400 million expansion slated to be complete December 2019. Once this project is finished an on-site resort will be built. Wow!
Empty waste tanks, full water tank, full propane tank, full refrigerator, stock of wine and beer, ready for fun in the desert sun. Off to Quartzsite, Arizona for a few weeks of desert boondocking.
We’re happy to be back in the Arizona desert near Quartzsite, Arizona for a few weeks where we will be meeting up with old friends and finding new ones. Follow along next week to see what fun things we do while parked in an area with thousands of people and no amenities. See you then!
