September 1-30, 2017 — The month started in Weston, WI and ended in northern Indiana. We stayed in WI much longer than initially planned due to family illness but by mid-month were on the move again. We went to Minneapolis, MN then diagonally across WI to Madison and Milwaukee before moving on through IL and then ending at the Indiana Dunes National Lakeshore. We stayed free all month except for five nights at a county park and one night of dry camping at the National Lakeshore. Free stays included friends/family driveways, Cabela’s, Walmart, Boondockers Welcome and Harvest Hosts sites. We had free camping spots lined up for the five nights spent at a county park but Mother Nature brought on a heatwave with mid 90 degree weather. It was way too hot to be without air conditioning!

Wisconsin State Capitol in Madison, WI. It’s the tallest building in the city and will remain so as legislation prohibits buildings taller than the columns surrounding the dome.
Mendota County Park in Middleton, WI. We spent five days there in attempt to escape a 90+ degree heatwave. Air conditioning was a must!
Trek Bicycle factory in Waterloo, WI. They offer free tours but prohibit any photography in the factory.
Harley Davidson power train plant in Menomonee Falls, WI. It wasn’t busy the day we went there so were blessed with a free hour long private tour.
A trip to Milwaukee, WI isn’t complete without a stop at Miller Brewery. We enjoyed a free tour that ended with three glasses of beer and good conversation with new friends.

Hard to get to northern Indiana from Milwaukee, WI without driving through Chicago. Thankful that it was a weekend and not rush hour traffic on a weekday. Still plenty of traffic.
