Electric Bikes, 5 Star Laundromat and London Bridge

February 22-28, 2019 — Before taking the leap into the full-time RV living and traveling lifestyle we did our share of research. We read books, forums, and blogs, watched YouTube vlogs, toured RV manufacturer factories, and visited RV dealers across several states. Our focus was on choosing the right RV for our individual needs and on how we planned to travel. We knew we would meet fellow RVers along the way but we really didn’t put much thought into it. Little did we know that finding “our tribe” would bring us the most joy out of this adventure.

We have met so many wonderful people while RVing and have developed countless life-long friendships. We even have made great friends with folks we’ve never met in person but have communicated with many times through Instagram, Facebook, forums, YouTube, email, text messages and this blog.

Much of our week was spent visiting with a group of friends, some new and some we’ve met before in other cities and states. We enjoyed several evenings around the fire pit swapping stories, learning from each other and just enjoying the camaraderie of the group. Although we didn’t take any pictures, the memories will always be ingrained in our minds!

Even with all the time spent with our friends, we still managed to take in a few of the sights of Lake Havasu as seen in the pictures below.

All nights this week were free stays at Craggy Wash BLM near Lake Havasu City, Arizona.

Such a nice view out the back window of Modern Laundromat in Lake Havasu City, AZ. Washing clothes here didn’t even seem like much of a chore with that great view. The laundromat itself was very nice, too. The machines were new and the entire place was exceptionally clean.

View of the landscape at Craggy Wash BLM. This is one of our favorite boondocking sites in Arizona due to the feeling of remoteness the area offers while being just two miles from a shopping center/Walmart/Home Depot. There is a state park nearby for water and dump station needs. Sites are plentiful and able to accomodate any size rig. AT&T and Verizon service are both excellent without the need for a booster. There is a 14 day stay limit and an on-site host. Rangers also patrol the area frequently.

The Havasu National Wildlife Refuge is located just north of Lake Havasu City, AZ. Here is a view of Castle Rock Bay from the refuge.

Wild burros are a common site on the roads in the Arizona desert. Unfortunately we did come across an accident site of a car vs burro and both did not fare well. Very sad.

Where there is quartz there is gold. Over 13.3 million ounces of gold have been mined in Arizona since 1860. In Mojave County where the photos below were taken, 2.4+ million ounces have been extracted. Wonder how much is still out there?

It wouldn’t be a proper visit to Lake Havasu City, Arizona without taking at least one photo of the London Bridge. The bridge was originally built in the 1930’s and formerly spanned the Thames River in London, England. It was purchased by Robert P. McCulloch, dismantled  and transported to Arizona with the intent of it being a tourist attraction drawing retirement home buyers to the area.  The bridge reconstruction was completed in 1971 and links an island in the Colorado River with Lake Havasu City. The bridge purchase was a success as the area is popular with tourists and the population has grown from approximately 4,000 in the 1970’s to over 53,000 today.

The cold spell that had been plaguing Arizona has finally gone away and the boaters have returned to Lake Havasu. What a beautiful sight!

Swap meets are popular winter events all through Arizona. Lake Havasu City has one on Sundays in the downtown region near the London Bridge. Vendors offer a variety of new and used wares including these colorful folding Addmotor electric bikes. The bikes top out at 23 mph with a pedal-assist range up to 50 miles. Fun!

What a great week! Our time at Craggy Wash BLM is nearing the end and it will be time to move on soon. Follow along next week as we leave Lake Havasu City and head east toward the Phoenix area where we have several bucket list activities planned. See you then!
