April 8-14, 2018 — Piney Grove Corps of Engineers campground near Tishimingo, Mississippi was our home for the entire second week of April. The campground is located on Bay Springs Lake in the north east corner of Mississipppi near the border of Alabama and Tennessee. During our stay this week at Piney Grove we took two trips to Alabama, one to the Muscle Shoals area and the other to Dismals Canyon. The remaining five days were spent at the campground doing a variety of activities such as reading, watching Netflix, walking, cleaning and laundry.
Despite the cold and rainy day in Mississippi we still enjoyed the great views of Bay Springs Lake.
Woodall Mountain is the highest natural point in Mississippi at 807 feet above sea level.

Wilson Dam near Florence, Alabama is one of nine dams that span the Tennessee River. The Dam opened in 1924 and was declared a National Historic Landmark in 1966.

The city of Muscle Shoals is home to two operating recording studios that have been producing hit songs since the 1960’s.
Fame Studios is one of two operating recording studios in Muscle Shoals, Alabama. Artists such as Aretha Franklin and Otis Redding have recorded music at the studio.

On a ridge in the Freedom Hills of Northwest Alabama among old oaks and piney woods lies Coon Dog Cemetery. It was established in 1937 by Key Underwood when he laid to rest his companion, Troop, in a hunting area that the dog had liked. Only purebred coon dogs are able to be buried in the cemetery and currently over 300 have been buried there.

With the Piney Grove campground being located on a peninsula we had a panoramic view of Bay Springs Lake. Beautiful!
We took advantage of a warm and breezy spring day by airing out our comforter and blankets.

We are so glad we pulled up our roots and escaped the snow and long winters of life in Wisconsin. This Friday the 13th forecast was a bit wrong as some areas actually received over 33 inches of heavy wet snow. Hopefully spring will arrive soon for our northern friends and family!
It was another great week of full-time RV living with just the right mix of touring and relaxation at home. Stay tuned as next week we continue our trek north along the Natchez Trace through Alabama and into Tennessee.
