July 2019 found us starting the month in northern Vermont, traveling through New Hampshire, Maine, Massachusetts, Rhode Island and ending the month in western Connecticut. It was a very travel intensive month with the RV as we overnighted in sixteen different locations across six states while driving a total of 1,248 miles.
Our initial plan for the month didn’t include several locations that we visited but by remaining flexible and grasping opportunities as they arose, we were able to add greatly to the excitement and enjoyment of full-time travel. With this flexibility we were able to visit with wonderful new friends in Massachusetts, spend several days boondocking on Cape Cod and relax during much-needed downtime at a casino in Connecticut.
Our total expenses for the month of July came in at $2,090.99, raising our total expenditure for 2019 to $12,251 or $1,750 per month. We do anticipate our monthly expenses to remain high throughout the summer as we complete a loop of the New England states and then make our way back to the midwest in September. Given the amount of wonderful experiences we have had traveling this summer the higher expenses are well-justified to us.
Our campground expenses for July remained at zero like they have for all of 2019 as we utilized overnight parking at Harvest Hosts and Boondockers Welcome sites, Walmart, Cracker Barrel, a casino and stayed with friends. While overnighting at business sites we do patronize them which in turn increases other category expenses such as food and entertainment. During July at Harvest Hosts sites we purchased items including maple syrup, ice cream, pizza, apple slushes, produce, Cog Railway tickets, etc. We enjoyed a wonderful meal at a Cracker Barrel and shopped at Walmart stores while staying there. We’re not big gamblers but did also patronize the casino by purchasing items at a few of their venues.
During July we also replaced several items such as mattress pads, sandals, vacuum cleaner, and electronic devices including a Roku, Fire TV Stick as either they wore out or an upgrade was in order. We also had to replace a tire on the Kia Soul as it developed puncture holes deeming it not repairable. That was a frustrating fix as the tire was only a few weeks old.
