Costs of Full-Time RVing – January 2018

The overall costs of living and traveling in an RV can vary greatly depending on where you are, the activities you are doing, repair costs, your personal spending habits, etc. The variability is essentially the same regardless of your chosen housing arrangement. We track our spending via the free app “PERSONAL CAPITAL” and publicly share it to help others estimate their potential expenses for life on the road.

Our expenses are posted by month and year. They include all of our costs for two adults except for health insurance as it is such a varied expense depending on your job status, age, location, income, etc. Our cost of this insurance has no relevance to anyone else so we are choosing to leave it out of the spreadsheet.

You can check our previous monthly costs here.

*Note – Includes all expenses incurred except for health insurance which we wish the details to remain private.

Campground Fees – No expenses incurred this month. The fees for our month long stay in Donna, TX were paid in November 2017.

Communication – Verizon phone plan shared with family, unlimited data plan with AT&T and UPS mail box. We had our mail forwarded to us so the monthly expense is higher than average.

Entertainment – Expenses include our Netflix family plan along with parking and bridge toll fees for entry into Mexico.

Food – Includes all groceries, alcohol and restaurant expenses. We ate out several times this month with friends for a total of $86.61 and the remaining $304.66 was for food and beverages consumed at home.

Gas -Car – Two tank fills for the Kia Soul.

Gas -RV – No gas purchase for the RV.

General – We were able to receive packages where we were parked so took full advantage. Purchases included clothes, shoes, sound bar for a TV, haircut, art supplies, birthday gift, and RN nursing license renewal.

Laundry – Two laundromat visits in Donna, TX. Odd amount as the machines took credit cards and charged $1.89 a load for washers and dryers.

License/Insurance – Full-time RV and tow vehicle insurance and licensing.

Medical/Dental – Expenses included dental work and cleanings along with medicine from Nuevo Progreso, Mexico.

RV/Auto – Since we were able to receive packages and had a comfortable place to work we completed repairs, maintenance and upgrades to the RV. Expenses included RV parts and much needed wash and wax for the RV and Soul. Both vehicles were full of salt from being on the beach in the Gulf Coast.

Utilities – One propane fill and electricity while at Victoria Palms Resort.
