Bootiful Wimberley

Yellow Rose of Wimberly

Wimberley, Texas is a small town of 2600 residents located in Texas Hill Country. It started as a trading post settlement in 1848 and then was the site of gristmill. The mill was sold in 1874 to Pleasant Wimberley and the town took on his name. The mill processed lumber, shingles, flour, molasses and cotton. The mill closed in 1925 but the town was well-established and continued to grow into a resort town popular with tourists.

Wimberley is an active arts community with many artists and galleries. In 2014 “Bootiful Wimberley” was started as a way to highlight the arts and enhance the town’s cultural tourism. Thirty two cowboy boot statues were sponsored and painted by local artists and placed around the town. Each boot is unique in design and reflects the theme of the sponsoring business. In 2015 eighteen more boots were added bringing the total to 50. Bootiful Wimberley is a project of the Wimberley Valley Arts and Cultural Alliance.

We spent an afternoon searching for the cowboy boot statues and looking at the beautiful artistry in the galleries. We quickly learned that much more time was needed to fully experience all the town has to offer. Even though our time was short we did manage to find 22 boot statues. We are hoping to fit in another day to see the town while we are in the Hill Country of Texas. Wimberley is a must-stop when you are in the area.
